At Red Kite School our school’s aims are summarised by our Mission statement:

Mission Statement:

Red Kite School strives to equip students with the skills, knowledge and citizenship skills to be successful in their future.

At Red Kite School our ethos is summarised by our School Motto:

Respect – Responsibility – Resilience

We provide specialist education to students aged 11-18 with social, emotional and mental health needs, as well as other learning needs.

We are part of Acorn Education, the UK’s leading independent provider of specialist education for vulnerable children and young people. As part of Outcomes First Group, we are leading our sector in setting and delivering new approaches that provide measurable outcomes for those in our care.

Previous Year’s Academic Performance

2024-2025 focussed mainly on the inclusive curriculum: building relationships with staff, getting into the routines of a school day, boosting school attendance, working towards EHCP targets (as part of Evidence for Learning) and gaining (or regaining) trust in education. During this, students showed remarkable progress in their reading. For the students who joined us in the Autumn Term 2024 the progress in the Summer Term was 27 months in reading age (equivalent to 2 years and 3 months) over the course of just one school year. In June 2024 the students were ready for academic baselining in English, Maths, Science, Art, Humanities, Cooking and PE. This informed our planning for the start of the 2025/6 academic year, including classes, adaptation and flightpaths.

Having built trust and routines, the 2025/6 year began with a broader and more ambitious curriculum for all of our students, and students were either baselined or progress checked in October (to ensure they had settled into the new school year and to ensure accurate and reliable assessment). The highlights so far this year for our students are:

1.    30 months reading progress in 9 months of school.

2.    77% of students on track or better (relative to their starting point).

3.    88% have made improvements in their reading.

4.    28% increase in lesson attendance from Summer to Autumn Term.

This shows that our system is working and our students are making considerable progress, despite many having missed a number of years of school. Students are assessed every half term (with ongoing formative assessments) to inform on future planning and adaptation.
